Anxiety and Phobias
According to the NHS definition “Anxiety disorder is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.” Anxiety is the main symptom of a variety of conditions, including panic disorder, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), performance or exam anxiety.
All types of anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of their age, gender, social or ethnic background. Some people feel anxious about a wide range of situations and issues rather than one specific situation. This Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is often a long term condition, leaving sufferers to feel anxious most days without ever being able to relax.
If you are suffering from any type of anxiety, you will know all too well how it feels. Logically, you know that you are safe. You know (and your friends and family have probably told you many times) that nothing is going to hurt you and nothing bad is going to happen. Consciously, rationally, intellectually you are safe and everything will be OK. You should feel fine, but you don’t! There is a part of your mind that sends out very powerful signals of fear. Your heart races, your stomach clenches and you are terrified!
So, what can we do to help? We use hypnosis to work directly with the part of your mind that is sending that fear signal, giving you the chance to bring help directly to that subconscious/emotional part of your mind — the part that doesn’t care about all those reasons why you should feel fine. This way, you have the chance to genuinely solve the problem where it’s happening rather than just talking about it or learning techniques to manage it.
